Akshaya Tritiya is not just the day to buy gold and other precious jewels and keep them safely in our treasures. In the extent of buying richness we forget our traditional beliefs and significance behind them. Always Akshaya Tritiya is considered as one of the holy day for the Hindus. As the word "Akshaya" denotes never emptying, never diminishing. "Tritiya" denotes the third lunar day of the month of Vaishaka season.There's a belief that it's a good fortune day favourable to marry, start the new ventures, business, gold and silver buying etc. It's even auspicious day to do homa,havan,Graha Pravesh also.it is said that the sun and moon are at their peak, exhibiting vibrancy and lustre like never before. It’s also the day when goddess of fortune showers her best blessings on people. The most significant events of the day as per our folklore and scriptures are, on this day mother Ganga descended on earth. It's the birthday of Lord Parashuram, one of Vishnu's incarnation. Lord Krishna's childhood friend Sudhama(Kuchela) offered Aval to Lord Krishna,met him in Dwaraka and received unlimited gifts and house.Yudistira,received the gift of Akshaya Patra from Surya Dev and thus Pandavas and Draupadi were able to get unlimited food during their exile with the miracle of Lord Krishna.It is the starting day of the Treta Yuga after Satya Yuga.The day has the credit of Veda Vyasa starting the great Mahabharata with Lord Vinayak writing it. Saint Adi Shankara recited the Kanakadhara Stotram for a poor couple. Goddess Mahalakshmi appeared and showered blessings of golden gooseberries. Incidentally this was also the day when the first Tirthankara- Rishabadeva of Jains ended his fast. Also, it is believed that Kubera received his wealth and position as the 'Lord of Wealth' on this auspicious day and many more. Lord Vishnu, being the preserver of whole creation, is worshipped on Akshaya Tritiya.The day is considered very significant to worship and please Lakshminarayana form of Lord Vishnu. Lakshminarayana is the manifestation of Lord Vishnu in which Lord Vishnu is worshipped along with His consort Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees of Lord Vishnu observe a day long fast on the significant day of Akshaya Tritiya. On the day of Akshaya Tritiya Lord Vishnu along with Goddess Lakshmi should be worshipped ritualistically with all necessary puja steps including flowers, dhoop and all.Hence, the day has great religious significance for most Hindu and Jain families. It is good to feed cow and calf that relieves one of his/her sin and dhosham. Pithru tarpanam on Akshaya Tritiya helps one seek the ancestors’ blessings to a great extent. Annadhanam on this day brings bounteous religious benefits to the donor.
